Therapeutic Horsemanship

Therapeutic riding impacts on different systems of the body, helping to regulate and stabilise them. Physical activity, cognitive stimulation and emotional connection are all supported, while the strength, rhythmic motion and warmth of the horse improve muscle tone, balance and coordination. It also teaches new skills and an understanding of the horse’s environment. This is a therapeutic session, and no previous riding experience necessary.

Equine therapy helps to increase self-esteem and to nurture the development of a healing and supportive bond between the horse and human. Guided by a trained professional, the participant is provided with the opportunity to share and explore their life story in a natural and supported environment. Therapeutic Riding Coach and Equine Therapist - Evie Connolly

In 2019, Evie completed training as a therapeutic riding coach with Ireland’s Festina Lente, accredited by the Institute for Therapeutic Animal Care Education.

Before developing a social farm and therapeutic riding centre at Cullenagh, Evie worked for ten years in community, medical, mental health and disability social work and continues to practice as a consultant social worker.

Evie is also a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Psychosocial-Psychoeducational (PISA) facilitator for people with reccuring experiences of acute trauma.
